Former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visited Nicosia on Tuesday for a two-day trip to participate in the third international conference of the Alexis Tsipras Institute (InAT) in cooperation with the Prometheus Research Institute. During a 50-minute meeting at the Presidential Palace, Tsipras and President Nikos Christodoulides discussed current geopolitical developments and the Cyprus issue. Tsipras advocated for the resumption of negotiations based on the Guterres framework to achieve a fair and sustainable solution for both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. The two also recalled their previous cooperation during the periods when Christodoulides served as government spokesman and Foreign Minister, noting their focus on defense support for Cyprus and EU sanctions. Separately, the leaders discussed the results of the Cypriot Presidency of the EU, with President Christodoulides describing the progress as better than expected. Beyond his meeting with the President, Tsipras was scheduled to hold talks with the General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou. The visit marks his first trip to the island following the founding of the Greek Left Alliance (EL.AS).
