Andreas Mavroyiannis comments on the Anti-Corruption Authority report regarding the 'Mafia State' book

Andreas Mavroyiannis, former presidential candidate and current Chair of the UN International Law Commission, has called for a thorough investigation into the findings of the Independent Authority Against Corruption. The investigation stems from allegations of corruption detailed in Makarios Drousiotis's book, 'Mafia State', which was published in autumn 2022. Mavroyiannis clarified that he had formally requested the Authority to examine the claims in November 2022, though he did not file a personal complaint. The Authority has recently concluded that there are prima facie cases requiring further inquiry to determine if criminal offenses occurred. Mavroyiannis urged the public and political entities to respect the rule of law, institutional processes, and the presumption of innocence. He warned against using these findings to settle political scores or engaging in extreme rhetoric. Former President Nicos Anastasiades has denied the allegations attributed to him in the context of this ongoing process.
