Veterinary association reports rise in illegal sale of medication
The Pancyprian Veterinary Association has reported a persistent rise in the illegal sale of veterinary medicinal products by unauthorized parties in Cyprus. According to the association, these medications are being sold through online platforms, pet shops, and grooming salons without the required veterinary prescriptions or supervision. The association alleges that competent authorities have shown prolonged inaction despite repeated reports regarding these violations. They emphasized that the unauthorized distribution of these drugs violates the law and may constitute a criminal offense. The association warned that the misuse of such products poses significant risks to animal health, including incorrect dosages, serious side effects, and the development of antibiotic resistance. Additionally, improper administration can lead to delays in providing correct medical treatment for animals. The organization is now calling on authorities to enforce current legislation through systematic inspections and legal prosecutions to protect both animal welfare and public health.
