Tufan Erhurman discusses Cyprus negotiation strategy with political party leaders
Turkish Cypriot politician Tufan Erhurman convened a one-hour meeting of the political party council to address the Cyprus issue and the Immovable Property Commission. Participants included leaders from parliamentary parties, such as Unal Ustel, Sila Usar Incirli, Fikri Ataoglu, and Erhan Arikli, along with non-parliamentary leaders Zeki Celer and Kudret Ozersay. Erhurman stated that he would not participate in a formal 5+1 meeting, emphasizing that the substance of the solution is more important than specific formulas. He proposed a step-by-step process consisting of confidence-building measures, a defined negotiation methodology, a fixed period for discussions, and a final solution. Erhurman expressed support for the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's initiative, currently facilitated by Maria Angela Holguin, while insisting on his proposed four-point methodology. He reiterated that his objective is a concrete solution rather than negotiations for their own sake, citing the UN call for a different approach this time.
