Italian police arrest seven suspects for anarchist railway sabotage

Italian authorities have arrested seven individuals accused of belonging to an anarchist network and conducting acts of sabotage against critical infrastructure. Five suspects were remanded in custody, while two were placed under house arrest, facing charges of terrorist association and subversion of democratic order. The investigation centers on attacks involving improvised explosive devices on the Rome-Florence and Rome-Naples high-speed rail lines. These incidents occurred in February during the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, causing delays and infrastructure damage estimated at 455,000 euros. While police indicate the sabotage was linked to anti-militarist protests and the Olympics, Greek sources additionally note that these actions were motivated by protests against the prison conditions of anarchist Alfredo Cospito. The group allegedly operated out of Rome with connections to cells in Milan and Naples. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the operation as a significant effort to protect strategic infrastructure.
