Ukrainian drone strike damages Gazprom Neft refinery in Moscow region

On Tuesday, a Ukrainian drone strike caused a fire and damage at a Gazprom Neft refinery located in the Moscow region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed the strike, noting the drone traveled 500 kilometers to reach the target. While Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin acknowledged facility damage, local emergency services claimed the fire was extinguished without affecting plant operations. Conversely, two industry sources stated the strike damaged a primary refining unit responsible for 53% of the plant's capacity, leading to a halt in operations. This incident is part of a broader trend, as attacks on Russian refineries have doubled since the beginning of 2026, impacting national output of fuel. Following a separate attack on its refinery in Tatarstan last week, the Russian producer Tatneft has implemented nationwide fuel purchase caps. Reports indicate that around a dozen Russian regions are currently experiencing localized fuel supply disruptions, characterized by central authorities as bottlenecks.
