EU annual report rates all 123 Cypriot bathing waters as excellent
The European Commission’s 2025 annual report on bathing waters indicates that all 123 monitored bathing sites in Cyprus received an 'excellent' quality rating. This ranking was achieved through the analysis of 1,198 water samples collected across the island. Cyprus joins Austria, Bulgaria, and Greece as countries where over 95% of bathing waters reached this top tier. Across the EU, Albania, and Switzerland, more than 22,200 sites were monitored during the 2025 season. Findings show that 85% of all monitored European sites are of excellent quality, while 96% meet minimum EU standards. Only 1.5% of sites were classified as having poor water quality. The overall results remain stable compared to the 2024 assessment. Data indicates that coastal waters generally maintain higher quality than inland water bodies.
