Warning shots reported near Russian frigate in the English Channel
On Tuesday, a UK-registered yacht reported that the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich fired warning shots approximately 500 yards away from the vessel in the English Channel. The incident occurred about 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight, outside of British territorial waters. The British Ministry of Defence confirmed they are investigating the reports of the incident, which was monitored by a Royal Navy vessel at the time. No injuries were reported during the encounter. While this event took place shortly after British commandos intercepted a sanctioned Russian oil tanker, authorities consider this to be an isolated incident unrelated to the previous operation. The Russian embassy in London has not yet provided an official comment regarding the situation. Conflicting reports exist regarding the proximity and nature of the exchange, but both sources identify the location as international waters in the English Channel.
