Cyprus House of Representatives finalizes parliamentary committee assignments
The Cyprus House of Representatives held an extraordinary plenary session to approve the composition and leadership of its parliamentary committees. The distribution of the 16 permanent committees resulted in the DISY and AKEL parties each securing five chairmanships. The DIKO and ELAM parties each took responsibility for three committee chairmanships. Key appointments include Giorgos Karoullas as chair of Foreign Affairs, Christiana Erotokritou for Finance, Aristos Damianou for Interior, and Evgenios Hamboullas for Defense. The Speaker of the House, Annita Demetriou, was appointed to head the special committees on Financial Disclosure, the House Rules, and the ad-hoc committee for the modernization of parliamentary procedures. This distribution represents the legislative balance of the 13th parliamentary term. While some procedural disputes were reported during the process, the plenary session finalized the assignments for all permanent, special, and regulatory bodies.
