Andros Kyprianou publishes book on Cyprus dispute and former officials
Former AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou has released his book titled 'Through the Symplegades of the Cyprus Problem: A Personal Testimony.' In interviews promoting the book, Kyprianou alleges that former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told him that former Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades sought personal financial gain during his presidency. Kyprianou also discloses conversations with the late former Interior Minister Socrates Hasikos, claiming Hasikos expressed concerns regarding the internal governance under the Anastasiades administration. Regarding the current status of the Cyprus negotiations, Kyprianou criticized President Nikos Christodoulides for lacking a clear strategy and relying on communication-focused policies. He argued that the Turkish demand for a two-state solution remains a primary obstacle, and criticized Anastasiades for his past handling of this issue. To break the deadlock, Kyprianou reiterated an AKEL proposal from 2020 that involves continuing negotiations based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation. His proposal suggests offering Turkey incentives, such as participation in Eastern Mediterranean energy projects and improved relations with the European Union, in exchange for a settlement.
