Fire safety education programme launched for Cyprus schools
The Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, in collaboration with the Cyprus Fire Service, the Cyprus Retired Firefighters Association, and the Bank of Cyprus' SupportCY network, launched a fire safety education programme for primary and secondary schools. The official presentation took place at Astromeritis Primary School, with Education Minister Dr. Athena Michaelidou attending. The initiative aims to foster a culture of fire prevention and self-protection among students through modern educational methods and practical activities. Chief Fire Officer Nikos Longinos stated that the programme follows earlier teacher training and now focuses on developing student skills for fire response. Elli Ioannidou, representing Bank of Cyprus, highlighted the programme as a strategic response to climate-related risks. SupportCY has committed to providing ongoing school visits, educational sessions, and fire prevention patrols in rural areas. Local officials, including community leader Aris Constantinou and school head Demetris Nicolaou, were also present to support the initiative. During the event, kindergarten and primary students participated in interactive demonstrations involving fire service equipment and fire engines.
