Police investigation underway for missing 22-year-old student in Larnaca

Cypriot authorities are investigating the disappearance of 22-year-old Shahruar Ahmed Emon, a student from Bangladesh residing in Oroklini. On June 12, 2026, the student left his residence to begin his first day of work at a factory but did not disclose the specific location. That same evening, he sent a mobile message containing his location to a friend, followed by a distress message sent from his phone to his father, who resides in Greece. According to some reports, unknown individuals subsequently contacted the father demanding a ransom for the student's release. Police have tracked the phone's last signal to the Kofinou area, though searches there have yielded no results. The student's mobile phone is currently switched off, and there has been no further contact. Police have released his photographs and are examining bus routes and CCTV footage to trace his movements.
