Larnaca EOA launches WhatsApp emergency alert system

The Larnaca District Organization of Local Government (EOA) has implemented a new communication system using the WhatsApp application. This initiative is designed to provide local authorities, including municipal and community representatives, with immediate alerts regarding extreme weather events and natural disasters. The system provides specific geographic information to help target areas at risk. This service complements an existing network of 25 meteorological stations operated in collaboration with the company KITASWEATHER across the city and province of Larnaca. The primary objective is to improve coordination between local authorities and emergency services during crises such as wildfires, particularly in mountain areas. The data provided by the network allows for timely preventative measures and faster response times. By utilizing a widely accessible platform like WhatsApp, the organization aims to increase the efficiency of information dissemination to officials in charge of disaster management. This measure is part of the EOA's ongoing effort to strengthen public safety and protection mechanisms in the region.
