Limassol completes installation of 80,000 smart water meters

The Limassol District Local Government Organisation has finished installing 80,000 smart water meters, covering over half of the 145,000 meters in the region. This project is part of a broader €13 million initiative funded by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, with €12 million allocated specifically for meter installation. The new system is designed to provide real-time water usage data, detect leaks, and monitor network performance. In addition to the meters, the initiative includes the installation of 200 pressure sensors, 60 chlorine sensors, and 20 multiparameter water quality sensors. A virtual 'Digital Twin' of the water network has also been developed to aid in decision-making and efficient management. Authorities are currently addressing technical difficulties and restricted access issues in areas where installations could not be completed during the initial phase. Future plans include the expansion of the smart system to cover the remaining water meters in the Limassol area.
