Patient survey on personal physicians in Cyprus' Gesy system
In November 2025, the Cyprus Federation of Patients' Associations (OSAK) conducted a nationwide survey involving 1,337 beneficiaries of the General Healthcare System (Gesy) regarding their experiences with personal physicians. The findings reveal high levels of patient satisfaction, with 96% stating their medical needs were met during their last appointment and 91% positively evaluating physician communication skills. Approximately 66% of respondents reported they would not change their current physician, and 75% have remained with the same doctor for over two years. Conversely, 35% of participants have switched their personal physician at least once since the system's inception. Primary reasons cited for changing doctors included communication difficulties, dissatisfaction with physician behavior, and inability to handle urgent cases. While 78% of users described communication with their doctor as easy, a segment of 13% reported specific problems. Overall, the data indicates a stable patient-physician relationship despite ongoing concerns regarding accessibility and communication.
