Cyprus tourism statistics for May 2026

The Statistical Service of Cyprus reported that tourist arrivals in May 2026 reached 455,680, a 4.9% decrease compared to May 2025. For the period from January to May 2026, total arrivals were 1,166,050, representing a 13.3% decline compared to the same period in 2025. The United Kingdom remained the primary source of tourism, accounting for 36.3% of arrivals, followed by Israel at 11.8%, Poland at 8.2%, Germany at 6.3%, and Sweden at 4.9%. The data indicates a significant recovery in arrivals from Israel following a sharp decline observed in March 2026. Additionally, Cypriot residents' travel abroad in May 2026 dropped by 1.7% to 140,892 trips, with Greece being the most popular destination. Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis described the figures as signs of market stabilization following the geopolitical tensions and incidents in March 2026. While official figures show a year-on-year decline, some reports highlight an 8.1% increase compared to May 2024.
