Court fines companies after fatal workplace accident in Paphos
The Paphos District Court has imposed fines totaling 55,000 euros against three companies following a fatal workplace accident. The Department of Labor Inspection prosecuted the employers for violations of safety and health regulations. The incident involved an employee who fell from a height of approximately 8 meters while working on reinforcement installation. The company K. Aristodemou (Sideras) Ltd was fined 22,000 euros for failing to provide safety belts with fall arrest mechanisms and for lacking mandatory employer liability insurance. S. Georgiou Construction Ltd, the main contractor, was fined 20,000 euros for failing to ensure that subcontractors implemented safe work methods, such as the use of proper scaffolding and guardrails. Additionally, three natural persons were sentenced to fines and suspended prison terms. The Department of Labor Inspection initiated these proceedings to enforce strict compliance with occupational safety laws.
