Paphos court fines three companies €55,000 for fatal workplace accident

The Paphos district court has imposed a total fine of €55,000 on three companies following a fatal workplace accident at a construction site. The investigation, led by the Department of Labour Inspection, confirmed that safety violations led to a worker falling eight metres to their death. K Aristodemou (Sideras) Ltd was fined €22,000 for failing to provide safety harnesses and anti-fall equipment, as well as failing to maintain mandatory employer liability insurance. S Georgiou Construction Ltd, the project's main contractor, received a €20,000 fine for violating minimum health and safety requirements for mobile construction sites. Celicandia Ltd, the project owner, was fined €6,500 for similar regulatory breaches. While initial reports primarily focused on corporate fines, one source also indicated that three individuals received additional penalties including suspended prison sentences. The court rulings were finalized in 2026 following prosecutions brought by the Ministry of Labour.
