President Christodoulides attends final EU Council summit under Cypriot presidency
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides is traveling to Brussels to participate in the European Council summit, which marks the conclusion of the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU. During the summit, the President will review the accomplishments of the Cypriot presidency and participate in a joint press conference with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. A key focus of his visit is a bilateral meeting with Antonio Costa to discuss potential EU assistance in reviving negotiations regarding the Cyprus issue. While the Cypriot government emphasizes the need for Turkey to demonstrate constructive intentions before EU demands are met, Turkey has requested participation in the SAFE program, visa liberalization, and customs union connectivity. Additionally, President Christodoulides will attend the inauguration of the 'Cyprus Insula' exhibition, participate in the European People's Party summit, and sign a joint declaration titled 'Europe for Culture – Culture for Europe'. Discussions regarding the Cyprus problem are expected to involve both Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen.
