Greek authorities dismantle large-scale illegal television streaming network
Greek law enforcement, specifically the Department for Organized Crime in Crete, has dismantled a major illegal subscription television network. Seven individuals, including a father and his sons, were arrested for operating the service which served between 80,000 and 86,000 customers. An undercover agent from the Greek police infiltrated the operation by posing as a potential subscriber to gather evidence. The illicit activity generated at least 7 million euros in profits, while the estimated financial damage to legal providers exceeds 50 million euros. The suspects reportedly used the illegal funds to purchase luxury vehicles and real estate in Attica and Agrinio, often paying off loans immediately. Investigators are currently looking into the laundering of these profits through real estate and the potential use of cryptocurrencies and foreign bank accounts. The detained individuals come from various professional backgrounds, including private sector employees and retirees.
