Severe heatwave across Europe causes fatalities and school closures

A severe heatwave is affecting parts of Europe, with temperatures exceeding 40°C in France, Spain, and the United Kingdom. In France, officials reported three deaths, including two children aged 2 and 4 who were found in a family vehicle in Carpentras. Nearly 2,700 schools in France have been closed or had their schedules modified. Meteo France has issued red heat warnings for up to 49 administrative districts as temperatures in Bordeaux were forecast to reach over 42°C. Spain has also implemented red alerts, with the Aemet weather service warning of temperatures reaching 40°C in the Basque country. Meanwhile, the UK has issued rare red and orange heat warnings for parts of England and Wales. Meteorologists attribute the event to a heat dome originating from the Sahara. Health authorities advise caution as high temperatures are expected to persist for several days.
