Serial killer Rex Heuermann sentenced to life in prison
On Wednesday, Rex Heuermann, a 62-year-old architect from Long Island, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Heuermann appeared before Judge Timothy Mazzei in Riverhead, New York, where he admitted his guilt for the murder of eight women. During the hearing, the defendant acknowledged his responsibility for the crimes, stating that his words had no meaning. Judge Mazzei questioned Heuermann regarding remorse, specifically asking if he felt sorry for the eight women he strangled to death. Heuermann replied affirmatively to the judge's inquiry. The judge subsequently described Heuermann as a disgusting individual. In April, Heuermann had already accepted charges related to the deaths of seven women, with the final sentencing confirming his total culpability for at least eight victims. The proceedings caused significant emotional distress among the victims' families present in the courtroom.
