UK privacy watchdog concludes investigation into medical record breach at The London Clinic
The UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has concluded its criminal investigation into a data breach at The London Clinic, where Catherine, Princess of Wales, underwent abdominal surgery in early 2024. The investigation began in March after reports emerged that a staff member attempted to sell sensitive personal health information. The ICO confirmed that a former employee engaged in the deliberate misuse of data by offering to disclose records for financial gain. While Sky News reported that the records involved the Princess of Wales, the ICO officially declined to identify the specific patient, and Kensington Palace has refrained from commenting. Following the inquiry, the ICO issued a formal reprimand to The London Clinic regarding its data handling practices but found no further systemic failures. The facility, which also treated King Charles III, remains under scrutiny regarding its internal security protocols. Catherine later disclosed that she was undergoing chemotherapy for a cancer diagnosis, though the breach itself occurred earlier.
