Severe flash flooding hits Jaen in southern Spain

On the evening of June 16, a sudden 20-minute storm caused severe flash flooding in Jaen, Andalusia. The city experienced intense rainfall, with reports noting 50 millimeters of precipitation within one hour. Rushing water knocked down pedestrians and carried debris, including waste containers, through the streets. Municipal authorities declared a state of pre-emergency as emergency services responded to 110 calls regarding flooded garages and basements. Infrastructure damage included uprooted pavement and widespread power outages across several areas. Despite the dramatic conditions and visuals of people being swept by currents, local authorities confirmed that there were no injuries among the 110,000 residents.
