Israeli settlers accused of attacking two mosques in the West Bank
On Wednesday, local Palestinian officials reported that groups of Israeli settlers set fire to two mosques in the West Bank. The incidents occurred in the villages of Jiljiliya and al-Mazraa an-Nubani, both located near Ramallah. At the Jiljiliya site, residents and journalists observed fire damage and Hebrew slogans painted on the walls, including references to the 'hilltop youth' movement. According to Osama Abdallah, a local council member, attackers burned a basement ritual washing room at the main mosque. In al-Mazraa an-Nubani, the village mayor Saad Dagher reported that settlers threw Molotov cocktails at the al-Farouq Omar ibn al-Khattab mosque. The Palestinian civil defense and local residents managed to extinguish the fires. The Israeli military stated it condemns such events and has launched an investigation, though one report noted they did not provide an immediate response. UN data indicates that settler violence in the West Bank has reached record levels, averaging six attacks per day.
