Delay in evacuation of the Seagate apartment building in Limassol

The Limassol District Self-Government Organization (EOA) is currently awaiting a court decision regarding the evacuation of the Seagate apartment complex in the Germasogeia tourist area. The application for an evacuation order was filed on May 20, but no ruling has been issued one month later. EOA President Yiannis Tsouloftas stated that the delay is due to a hierarchical appeal filed by the property owners, which is currently under review by the Ministry of the Interior. The building houses approximately 60 families who would be required to vacate if the order is finalized. Tsouloftas criticized the existing legal framework as slow and ineffective for addressing structural safety hazards. He emphasized the need for legislative amendments to grant the EOA more efficient tools to manage dangerous buildings. There are reportedly nearly a thousand buildings in the region identified as potentially dangerous. If the court order is eventually issued, the police will be responsible for ensuring its execution should the owners refuse to comply.
