Consumer price index data for May in Cyprus shows mixed trends

The Consumer Protection Service’s price observatory in Cyprus reported a general increase in prices for 250 essential products across 400 retail locations in May. Cold cuts saw the largest monthly increase at 6.4%, followed by frozen breaded fish at 6.3% and frozen shellfish at 6.1%. Other notable price hikes included edible oil at 5.8%, canned meat at 5.4%, and infant formula at 5.1%. Conversely, fresh vegetables and greens recorded a monthly decrease of 24.3%, despite an annual increase of 24.9% compared to May 2025. Data from the e-kalathi platform highlighted an 11.2% price difference between the most expensive and least expensive supermarkets. These trends are monitored in connection with the ongoing inflation recorded by the Statistical Service.
