Large-scale drone attack hits Moscow and Russian regions
Ukraine conducted a widespread drone strike targeting Moscow and various regions across Russia, which Russian authorities described as one of the largest attacks since the start of the conflict. Russian officials reported that 180 drones were intercepted over Moscow and nearly 1,000 across the country within 24 hours. The attacks caused fires at the Kapotnya oil refinery in Moscow and an oil depot in the Rostov region, where one fatality was recorded. In the Moscow area, 17 people were reported injured and several residential buildings were evacuated as a precaution after drone debris fell on a shopping center. The strikes caused significant travel disruption, forcing all four major Moscow airports to suspend operations and leading to the cancellation or delay of over 500 flights. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the operation as a form of long-range sanctions in response to recent Russian strikes on Kyiv. Meanwhile, the First Corps Azov confirmed their involvement in expanding strike campaigns targeting deep Russian military logistics. Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage to infrastructure and industrial facilities.
