Staff protest follows violent incident at social welfare services in Larnaca

On Thursday morning, a 51-year-old man caused property damage to five employee vehicles parked outside the Social Welfare Services offices in Agioi Anargyroi, Larnaca. The suspect was subsequently identified and arrested by the police. Following the incident, 30 staff members organized a two-hour work stoppage between 11:00 and 13:00 to protest for better safety conditions. Demonstrators displayed banners calling for security and stating that their lives are at risk. The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Klea Hadjistefanou Papaellina, along with General Director Giannis Nikolaidis and Director of Social Welfare Services Maria Kyratzi, visited the site from Nicosia to assess the situation. The Deputy Minister acknowledged the staff's justified panic and pledged a comprehensive review of safety protocols. The public union PASYDY described the event as a source of severe psychological distress and fear for the personnel.
