Investigation into 2014 land purchase by Andri Anastasiades

A 1,739 square meter plot of land owned by the Archbishopric in Limassol was purchased by Andri Anastasiades for 500,000 euros in 2014. Independent property valuers at the time estimated the market value of the property to be approximately 870,000 euros. The sale agreement, signed on February 3, 2014, required a 40,000 euro cash deposit, followed by a payment of 160,000 euros by April 30. The remaining balance was to be paid in 75 interest-free monthly installments of 4,000 euros each. The case recently appeared in the findings of the Independent Authority Against Corruption after initially being reported by the newspaper Phileleftheros in April 2014. At the time of the original reports, then-President Nikos Anastasiades denied allegations of collusion, labeling the accusations as politically motivated. The investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding this transaction and whether proper valuation and transparency standards were met.
