Turkey announces joint search and rescue exercises and NATO air defense deployments

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced several military activities during its weekly briefing. From June 22 to 26, Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will conduct joint search and rescue exercises in the Eastern Mediterranean, covering areas designated by Turkey as its search and rescue zone. Concurrently, a trilateral air exercise dubbed 'Turkish Eagle' will occur in Konya from June 22 to July 3, involving Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Egypt. Additionally, an Italian SAMP/T air defense system has been deployed to the 3rd Main Jet Base Command in Konya under NATO's Permanent Defense Plan. The ministry also confirmed that the indigenous Siper air defense system achieved full operational capability following a successful test on June 12 in Sinop. These developments coincide with preparations for the upcoming NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8. Turkey continues to emphasize both its domestic defense industry advancements and its strategic cooperation within the alliance.
