British bases court sentences 28-year-old for drug possession

On June 17, a 28-year-old Greek Cypriot was sentenced to nearly three years in prison by the Sovereign Base Areas court. The individual was arrested last December in Trachoni after authorities discovered 23 kilograms of cannabis inside his vehicle. The arrest was the result of a joint operation conducted by the British Bases Police and the Cyprus Police Anti-Narcotics Unit (YKAN). The defendant was found guilty of drug possession with the intent to supply. Following the sentencing, he was transferred to the central prison in Dhekelia to serve his term. Inspector Melina Papagrigoriou stated that the ruling reflects the authorities' commitment to combating drug-related crime. Officials expressed hope that this sentence serves as a clear warning against involvement in drug trafficking.
