Update on the Liopetri River redevelopment project

The redevelopment of the Liopetri River began in 2020 with an original completion deadline of March 2023. Due to delays, the Ministry of Interior terminated the contracts of the initial contractor and the project engineer in November 2024. Following this, the project was split into phases to ensure its completion. The road network was successfully finalized in July 2025 at a cost of approximately 500,000 euros plus VAT. Regarding the construction of quay walls, a tender process faced a three-month delay due to a legal objection from a bidder. Works on the quays have since commenced with the successful bidder, and progress is ongoing to complete the remaining stages of the project. Markos Koumi, Deputy Mayor of the Liopetri Municipal District, expressed satisfaction with the current progress and the recent improvements for local fishermen and visitors.
