Forestry department to install animal rescue ramps in Cyprus

On 15 June 2026, the Cyprus Forestry Department signed a contract for the construction and installation of 75 animal rescue ramps in artificial lakes across the country. The project is valued at €17,000 and is intended to prevent wild and stray animals from becoming trapped due to steep or slippery banks. The Department will oversee the implementation, with completion expected within two months. These ramps are designed to serve as escape routes to prevent animal exhaustion and drowning. The initiative is part of broader departmental efforts to improve environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. The Forestry Department will hold responsibility for supervising the installation process. Previous incidents indicated that animals frequently struggled to exit these artificial water bodies independently.
