Road closures and infrastructure upgrades in central Nicosia

Starting June 19, 2026, parts of Crete Street and Philippiadou Street in central Nicosia are closed to traffic for approximately two months. The project involves Crete Street from Digeni Akrita Avenue to Stasandrou Street, along with all of Philippiadou Street. Construction efforts include anti-flood infrastructure with new storm water drains and the installation of accessible sidewalks. Additional tasks involve road surface reconstruction, improved signage, new traffic flow regulations, and updated parking spaces. Infrastructure for utility services will also be upgraded during this period. To manage traffic, the Municipality of Nicosia has installed temporary traffic lights at the junction of Androkleous and Stasandrou streets. Motorists are advised to follow the temporary traffic signs and diversions. This project is funded by the European Union's NextGenerationEU mechanism under the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan.
