New rhythmic gymnastics element named after Vera Tugolukova

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has officially added a new rhythmic gymnastics element to its Code of Points, naming it the 'Tugolukovas Pivot' after Cypriot athlete Vera Tugolukova. The athlete successfully performed the move in April at the World Cup in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which led to its official inclusion. The technical committee describes the pivot as a side split with help, where the trunk is horizontal and the free leg is bent. Unlike standard pivots that require a 180-degree turn, this element mandates a full 360-degree rotation to earn points. FIG officials confirmed that once an element is named after an athlete and entered into the record, it remains a permanent part of the sport's history. Representatives from the Cyprus Gymnastics Federation stated that this recognition represents one of the highest possible honors for a gymnast. The approval process required the element to be executed successfully in an international competition followed by an evaluation by the FIG technical committee. This accomplishment marks the first time a Cypriot gymnast has had a movement officially named after them in the FIG Code of Points.
