Recent police drug seizures in Nicosia and Limassol
On June 22, 2026, police in Nicosia arrested a 35-year-old man after discovering 10 kilograms of opioid substances, identified as poppy pods, stored in 54 containers at his residence. Further searches yielded an additional 100 grams of poppy pods and 15 grams of beige powder. Authorities confirmed the suspect has been residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus since April 2022. He was scheduled to appear before the Nicosia District Court for a detention hearing. Separately, in Limassol, a 22-year-old man was arrested on June 20, 2026, on an outstanding warrant related to an earlier seizure of 2.1 kilograms of opioids. This suspect is also residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus. He joins two other previously detained suspects, aged 21 and 23, who were apprehended after police found poppy pods in their possession. Additionally, in the Famagusta district, two more individuals were remanded for eight days following the seizure of over 7 kilograms of cannabis products.
