Three arrested in Limassol following seizure of over two kilograms of opium poppy

Authorities in Limassol have arrested three individuals in connection with the seizure of 2.1 kilograms of dried opium poppy pods. The investigation began when police stopped a 23-year-old man carrying 418 grams of the substance. A subsequent search of his residence led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man and the discovery of an additional 1.682 kilograms of poppy pods. On June 21, 2026, a third suspect, aged 22, was arrested under a judicial warrant. Police confirmed that this 22-year-old suspect is also facing charges for illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus. The Limassol District Court has remanded the initial two suspects in custody for eight days. The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) is continuing its investigations into the case. These arrests are part of a broader series of operations in Cyprus involving significant drug seizures.
