Anorthosis appoints Nestor El Maestro as new head coach
Anorthosis Famagusta officially appointed Serbian coach Nestor El Maestro on a two-year contract following a search for a new head coach. He is expected to arrive in Cyprus in early July 2026 for permanent residency. El Maestro will be joined by his younger brother, 33-year-old Nikon El Maestro, who will serve as his assistant and technical analyst. The club is currently under a transfer ban, forcing the new staff to rely on existing personnel, including young players from the U19 squad. Negotiations for the position reportedly involved Zeljko Kopic, but talks failed over a disagreement regarding buyout clauses. The 43-year-old manager previously coached in Bulgaria, Austria, Turkey, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. The board views this as a transitional period, with potential internal organizational changes to follow, including the possible appointment of Christos Marangos as executive president.
