Anorthosis Famagusta begins preparations for the 2026-27 season
Anorthosis Famagusta has officially commenced preparations for the 2026-27 season under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Néstor El Maestro. Following the completion of mandatory medical and ergometric tests at Uclan Cyprus, the team began training sessions, with a schedule of double daily practices set to run through Friday. The club is currently operating under a transfer embargo, which is expected to last until the summer of 2027, forcing the team to rely on its existing core, renewals, and returning players. Notable inclusions in the squad are captain Kostakis Artymatas, who has recovered from an injury sustained on January 25, 2026, and Dutch midfielder Joël van Nieff, who is being evaluated after undergoing multiple surgeries. The coaching staff led by Néstor El Maestro includes his assistant Nikon El Maestro, fitness coach Christodoulos Paglas, and goalkeeper coach Antonis Georgallidis. The team is scheduled to depart for a primary training camp in Poland on July 23, where they will continue their preparations until early August. Meanwhile, the administration led by Savvas Koumis has reportedly paid approximately one million euros to address historical financial liabilities accumulated by previous management.
