Anorthosis Famagusta enters preseason under coach Nestor El Maestro amidst transfer ban
Anorthosis Famagusta has begun preparations for the 2026-27 season as the team undergoes medical and ergometric tests. Nestor El Maestro has been appointed as the new head coach and will lead his first training session on Monday, July 13, at the Antonis Karras training center. The team will travel to Poland for a main training camp from July 24 to August 3. Due to a FIFA-imposed transfer ban effective until 2027, the club is unable to sign new players and must rely on its existing roster, contract renewals, and returning loan players. 32-year-old Dutch midfielder Joel van Nieff, who missed the previous season due to abdominal and meniscus surgeries, has been medically cleared and will be evaluated by the technical staff. Additionally, George Pavlidis has been released, while 17-year-old Marinos Petrou has been loaned to ASIL to gain playing experience. Administrative reorganization is ongoing under Savvas Koumis, with plans to strengthen commercial and management departments, while a presentation of the full roster is scheduled for August 4.
