Fatal motorcycle accident in Limassol claims the life of 29-year-old man
On Saturday, June 20, at approximately 3:15 a.m., 29-year-old Dimitris Vasiliou died in a road collision on the Paphos–Limassol motorway near the Agios Silas exit. The motorcycle driven by Vasiliou, who resided in Kato Polemidia, struck the rear of a minibus driven by a 57-year-old man. The victim was returning home from a night out and was approximately 1.5 kilometers away from his residence when the crash occurred. Despite wearing a helmet and protective gear, Vasiliou sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Limassol General Hospital. The 57-year-old minibus driver tested negative for both alcohol and drugs. Limassol Traffic Police closed the motorway for several hours to conduct an on-site investigation. Police noted a lack of brake marks at the scene, and officials are currently examining potential factors including speed. The incident has drawn widespread mourning from the local community and the Apollon sports club, of which the victim was a dedicated supporter.
