Archbishop Georgios addresses Paphos Diocese leadership changes
Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus attended the first clergy assembly of the Paphos Diocese under the new Metropolitan Gregorios to address questions regarding recent leadership transitions. He explicitly stated that the decision to remove the former Metropolitan Tychikos was not based on financial irregularities, personal disputes, or superficial motives, but rather on ecclesiastical and canonical reasons. The Archbishop rejected allegations of financial misconduct, asserting that the church accounts are open for inspection. He confirmed that the former Metropolitan Tychikos remains suspended while continuing to hold his current views. Furthermore, the Archbishop discussed the shortage of clergy across Cyprus, noting that the issue is particularly challenging in the Paphos district due to the high number of rural communities. Metropolitan Gregorios emphasized that his primary goal is the spiritual development of the faithful. The leadership also urged the public to be cautious regarding misinformation circulating on social media.
