Foot-and-mouth disease situation stabilizes in Cyprus
Dimitris Epameinondas, president of the Pancyprian Veterinary Association, announced on Saturday that the foot-and-mouth disease situation is stabilizing. This improvement is attributed to ongoing vaccination campaigns, strict biosecurity measures, and favorable seasonal temperature shifts. Recent test samples from Limassol and Nicosia have returned negative results. A nationwide monitoring campaign is now underway to check antibody titers and detect any latent presence of the virus. Vaccinations are proceeding according to schedule and are expected to conclude between late August and mid-September. Authorities confirmed that current vaccine supplies are sufficient for the ongoing cycle. Future procurement needs for porcine vaccines will be assessed upon the next delivery. No new positive cases have been reported during recent surveillance efforts.
