Sixteen people rescued after ride malfunction at New York amusement park
On Friday, June 19, 16 people were trapped on the Wave Twister ride at the Adventureland amusement park in Long Island, New York. The ride malfunctioned around 7:30 p.m. local time, causing the passengers to remain stuck for approximately three hours. Reports regarding the altitude of the stranded passengers varied, with estimates ranging from 7.5 meters to 23 meters above the ground. The group included a 40-year-old adult and children between the ages of 5 and 12. Multiple emergency teams, including fire departments from East Farmingdale, West Babylon, and Amityville, as well as the Suffolk County Police, conducted the rescue operation. No injuries were reported during the incident, and the park was partially evacuated as a precaution. The Wave Twister, which opened in March, will remain closed pending an investigation by technical advisors. Adventureland officials stated they are cooperating with experts to resolve the issue while emphasizing the park's long-standing safety record.
