Man arrested after obstructing Thessaloniki Pride parade
During the Thessaloniki Pride parade on Saturday afternoon, a 27-year-old man wearing monastic clothing obstructed the march on Pavlou Mela Street. The individual, accompanied by another person dressed similarly, shouted "repent" while holding a cross and an icon of the Virgin Mary. He laid down in front of a parade float, forcing a temporary halt to the event. Local police arrived at the scene, removed the man, and placed him under arrest. Investigations revealed that the man was not a member of the clergy or affiliated with any religious institution. Authorities discovered that the suspect had an outstanding three-year and one-month prison sentence from the Drama Misdemeanour Court for property damage and drug possession. Furthermore, he was wanted for draft evasion during peacetime. The individual remains in police custody following his identification and processing.
