Iranian president clarifies nuclear policy ahead of talks
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons. Speaking ahead of talks with the United States at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland, Pezeshkian reaffirmed that his country will not relinquish its right to uranium enrichment. The president noted that Iran is prepared to provide written assurances regarding its non-military intentions. He cited the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to which Iran is a signatory, as the legal framework guaranteeing the right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes. While western perspectives often emphasize regional security concerns, the Iranian government maintains that its activities are strictly for peaceful energy production. These remarks come amid heightened tensions following recent military operations targeting Iranian leadership.
