World Music Day celebrations held across Cyprus
On June 21, 2026, Cyprus celebrated World Music Day with various free concerts and cultural events held in squares and public spaces across multiple municipalities. The Make Music Cyprus festival, which marks its eighth year, serves as a major component of these celebrations. Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos noted that for the first time, the festival was expanded to a three-day event, covering the entire municipality of Nicosia including Agios Dometios, Aglantzia, and Engomi. This year, the festival achieved a record participation of over 500 artists, with Cyprus ranking as the country with the second-highest artist participation globally for the event. The festival, which originated in 1982 under the French Ministry of Culture to promote public access to music, returned to the historic center of Nicosia on Sunday with an expanded number of stages. Mayor Prountzos reported significant public engagement across all age groups during the weekend activities.
