Former minister Efthimios Flourentzos speaks at Dimitris Christofias memorial
Former Minister of Communications and Works, Efthimios Flourentzos, delivered a memorial speech at the annual ceremony for the late President of the Republic, Dimitris Christofias. The event took place at the Holy Church of Agia Sophia in Strovolos. During his address, Flourentzos emphasized the necessity of resolving the Cyprus issue through a bicommunal, bizonal federation. He praised Christofias for prioritizing the restart of negotiations and noted that the late president recognized the essential role of Turkish Cypriots in any potential settlement. Flourentzos criticized reliance on rhetoric and slogans, arguing instead for political will and consistent negotiation. Addressing the current stalemate, he warned that the continued lack of progress since the Crans-Montana talks and the Turkish side’s advocacy for a two-state solution have made the permanent division of the island an increasing risk.
