Diplomatic talks between the U.S. and Iran in Switzerland

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is leading diplomatic discussions with Iran in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, aimed at ending regional hostilities. The talks involve mediators from Qatar, Pakistan, and Switzerland, with the goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement within 60 days. A key point of contention is the status of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections at Iranian nuclear facilities hit by earlier military strikes. While Vice President Vance claimed that Iran agreed to allow IAEA inspectors back into the country as a step toward denuclearization, Iranian officials, including Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei and UN Ambassador Ali Bahreini, explicitly denied this. Iran stated that no meetings with IAEA Director Rafael Grossi have occurred and that it is too early to discuss such inspections. The negotiations also aim to establish mechanisms for the safe operation of the Strait of Hormuz and to manage tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
